Country Court’s Make a Wish initiative was back in action again recently as Castor Lodge Care Home residents Sylvia and Ingrid took a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool at Tallington Lakes.
The Make a Wish initiative gives residents the opportunity to tell staff about somewhere they have always wanted to go, or a special activity they have always wanted to do.
Sylvia spoke to the staff team about her love of swimming and how she would love to get back in a pool.
The team at Castor Lodge went above and beyond to make the swimming trip happen, and once the other residents heard about the plans, they were keen to join in. The Home’s Manager Natalie White led the way to the pool and the ladies were soon splashing around and making the most of being back in the water.
“Swimming is a fantastic exercise for older people, it’s gentle on the joints and improves muscle strength and tone.” explained Home Manager Natalie White. “When we heard about Sylvia’s wish we thought ‘why not?’. The resident’s families were delighted and sent swimming costumes for their loved ones to wear as soon as they heard about it."
Natalie also expressed her gratefulness to the staff at Tallington Lakes saying "The team at Tallington Lakes were very helpful and made us so welcome." she added "The smiles on everyone’s faces made the whole trip so worthwhile”.
