Celebrating 50 years of marriage

Leading Belfast Care Home Bradley Manor held a very special event recently for Vincent Wilson, one of its residents.

Vincent and his wife Margaret decided to celebrate 50 years of marriage by renewing their vows at the Life Cafe in Bradley Manor.

The big day started out like any other wedding day – the groom had his clothes laid out while the bride got pampered at home.

The wedding room was set out, the champagne was put on ice and the priest was on hand to perform the ceremony, while family and friends arrived to witness the renewal of vows.

Vincent had performed in a bagpipe band for many years and the day would not have been complete without one of his friends piping the happy couple into the room.

Following the renewal of vows, there was a tasty buffet complete with a beautiful wedding cake for Vincent, Margaret and their guests. The afternoon was rounded off with live music to which all the residents were invited to enjoy.

Rozzi Kennedy, Activity Therapist with Bradley Manor, said: "It was important that we made this day really special. I enjoyed working closely with the family to ensure things ran smoothly, whilst bearing in mind that Mr Wilson didn’t get stressed or anxious. Everyone – family, friends and staff – enjoyed the day."

Operations Director Mandy Mitchell pointed out that just because someone has dementia doesn’t mean living an ordinary life has to be curtailed.

She said: “Here at Bradley Manor we ensure that all residents are treated with the upmost respect. We ensure that they are treated as individuals and that families are involved in all aspects of care including their social life.

“We ensure that residents enjoy every day in Bradley Manor and we know that Mr and Mrs Wilson really enjoyed renewing their vows. Everyone at Bradley Manor loved taking part in their big day – a day that made so many family memories and we are glad in helping make it so special."

Bradley Manor is part of the Healthcare Ireland (Belfast) Group and is home to 82 residents and registered with the RQIA for dementia nursing, dementia residential and general nursing. Any enquiries can be made directly to Bradley Manor on 028 90745164.
