There’s something I need to tell you…
I've started something new.
A podcast!
Even typing those words feels a little bit surreal because this is something that has been quietly sitting in the back of my mind for quite a while.
One of those maybe one day ideas that keeps popping back up whenever you're driving, walking the dog, making a cuppa, or trying to switch your brain off at bedtime.
Well… one day finally arrived.
And I'm excited.
Care Home Activities Matter is a new podcast created specifically for care home activity coordinators who are looking for fresh ideas, encouragement, wellbeing inspiration, and honest conversations about supporting residents to live well.
Why I've launched the Care Home Activities Matter podcast
The podcast is called Care Home Activities Matter.
The title says everything I want this podcast to stand for.
Because activities are not just filling time.
They are opportunities for connection.
For identity.
For joy.
For purpose.
For comfort.
For confidence.
For belonging.
Activities matter because people matter.
And that message deserves to be heard.
Care Home Activities Matter is currently available on Spotify, and I hope to make it available on other platforms as it grows.
I know many activity coordinators already listen to podcasts while driving to work, walking, crafting, gardening, or doing all those little jobs that somehow fill a whole day.
Sometimes it's easier to listen than it is to sit and read another article or training guide.
That's what appealed to me most.
The idea of being able to chat with you in a more relaxed and personal way.
Sometimes there are things I want to share that feel better spoken out loud - stories, encouragement, little reminders, ideas that arrive while I'm thinking about resident wellbeing, meaningful activities, dementia support, or the ups and downs of this role we care so deeply about.
And I really wanted a new way to connect with you.
If I'm completely honest, I hesitated for ages - years, actually!
Would anyone listen?
Would I sound awkward?
Would I run out of things to say?
(Those of you who know me well are probably laughing at that last one.)
But I kept coming back to the same thought:
If something helps even one activity coordinator feel supported, inspired, less alone, or more confident in what they're doing… then it's worth doing.
That's really what Bright Copper Kettles has always been about.
Supporting activity coordinators.
Helping you feel encouraged.
Reminding you that meaningful activities are not about perfection, expensive resources, or constantly entertaining people every minute of the day.
They're about connection, wellbeing, understanding people, and creating moments that matter.
What you can expect
I want the podcast to feel very much like sitting down together for a cuppa and a chat.
Some episodes will include practical care home activity ideas that you can adapt for your own residents and setting.
Some will focus on mindset and wellbeing.
Some may explore dementia support, meaningful engagement, the HELPS framework, seasonal inspiration, or challenges activity coordinators face behind the scenes.
And I suspect there will be a few honest "you are not the only one struggling with this" conversations too.
I want it to feel supportive, real, encouraging, and easy to listen to.
No pressure.
No perfection.
Just conversations that hopefully leave you feeling inspired and understood.
Trying something new can feel scary
I know many of you encourage residents to try new things every single day.
But sometimes we forget how uncomfortable it can feel ourselves.
Starting this podcast reminded me of that.
It reminded me that growth often begins with wobbling slightly outside our comfort zone.
And maybe that's a good reminder for all of us.
You do not have to have everything perfectly figured out before you begin.
Sometimes you simply start.
In many ways, launching Care Home Activities Matter feels a bit like being a new resident moving into a care home.
Everything is unfamiliar.
You don't quite know what to expect.
You wonder whether you'll fit in, whether people will like you, and whether you've made the right decision.
That's a little bit how I feel inviting you to listen to my podcast.
It's exciting.
It's nerve-wracking.
And yes, it's a little scary too.
But if there's one thing I've learned from supporting care home activity coordinators over the years, it's that some of the best things happen when we're willing to take that first step.
So I'm feeling the fear and doing it anyway.
And I honestly cannot wait to take you along on this new adventure with me.
If you decide to listen, thank you.
Truly.
Whether you've been following Bright Copper Kettles for years or have only just discovered my little corner of the internet, I appreciate every single person who reads, listens, shares, comments, or simply quietly takes encouragement from something I create.
If you're a care home activity coordinator looking for inspiration, encouragement, practical activity ideas, and conversations about resident wellbeing, I'd love for you to join me on the Care Home Activities Matter podcast.
So here we go…
A new adventure.
A new way to connect.
And probably quite a few cups of tea along the way.
