Sometimes the smallest things can start the biggest conversations.
A red lipstick.
A selfie.
A shared photo online.
A simple moment of awareness.
We’re encouraging people to take part in the Red Lippy Selfie Challenge as part of the #RedLippyMay2026 campaign - helping to raise dementia awareness, reduce stigma, and support people living with dementia.
And honestly? You do not even need to wear lipstick if it is not your thing. Wear something red, wave a red scarf, pop on a red hat, or simply hold up a red heart.
The important part is joining the conversation about dementia.
Why Red Lippy May matters for dementia awareness
Dementia affects so many people and families, yet many still feel isolated, misunderstood, or unsure where to turn for support.
Awareness campaigns like this help:
Encourage understanding
Challenge stigma
Create conversations
Raise funds for support and wellbeing
Remind people that those living with dementia are still people first
Because dementia may change parts of life, but it does not take away personality, humour, emotions, relationships, or the need for connection.
How you can join the Red Lipstick Selfie Challenge
It is wonderfully simple.
Step 1
Put on your favourite red lipstick - or wear something red.
Step 2
Take a selfie.
Step 3
Share your photo on social media using: #RedLippyMay2026
Step 4
Invite others to join in - tag them in you post.
Step 5
Donate or help raise funds if you can.
That is it.
Simple actions really can make a difference.
Red Lippy May is about more than lipstick
At the heart of this campaign is compassion.
It is about seeing the person beyond the diagnosis.
Listening more carefully.
Learning more.
Supporting families.
Creating moments of joy.
Helping people feel less alone.
And perhaps most importantly, reminding people living with dementia that they matter.
That's why Bright Copper Kettles CIC is donating free Themed Activity Packs to care homes across the UK as part of this campaign.
Will you join us?
Many of us involved in Red Lippy May are remembering parents, grandparents, and other loved ones that we have lost through dementia, some of us are still supporting loved ones living with a dementia diagnosis.
We would absolutely love to see your selfies, your activities, your fundraising ideas, and your red-themed celebrations.
And if you'd like to share your story, we'd love to read that too.
So go on…
Find that red lipstick.
Take the selfie.
Start the conversation.
Because awareness begins with all of us.
